I am very excited to announce that we have hired a Business Development Manager. Ebony Austin comes having already established an impressive career including various roles in strategic planning, sales and entrepreneurship. As our Business Development Manager, she will primarily be focused on sales, client relations and fostering relationships with our law enforcement community. Ebony is truly a driven individual, and incredibly passionate about helping us grow Bravo1 Protection.
A native of Brooklyn, NY Ebony moved to Greenville and completed her final year of High School at Greenville Senior High. She attended Benedict College in Columbia, SC and relocated to Greenville to complete her Associates Degree in Criminal Justice at Greenville Technical College. She is now enrolled at Southern Wesleyan University completing her Bachelors in Business Administration. Early in Ebony’s career she worked as a case manager for the state of SC became a realtor for Prudential C. Dan Joyner and later Keller Williams Realty, served as a tactical buyer and accounts specialist for a major manufacturing company, owned and operated a local historic business in downtown Greenville, and worked for a local outsourced accounting company. Ebony is a mother of four, actively involved in Greenville PULSE as Vice Chair, Greenville Chamber of Commerce Finance Committee, United Way African American Leadership Greenville Advisory Council, and President of the Track and Field Booster Club at Hillcrest High School.

Well, we finally got our SLED license in the mail, which means Bravo1 Protection is officially a go. Over the last few months Dean Elliott and I have been working on our creating a company whose sole mission is to provide exceptional security services for private businesses, primarily those related to the hospitality industry. Bravo1 is my third business venture, and it's quite different from my other two businesses, which has lead people to ask me why I am doing this.
Simply put, I saw a need, and I decided to fill a gap. When I opened my event venue, The Old Cigar Warehouse, the City of Greenville required that I have SLED certified security officers on site at all my events. At the time it didn't seem like a big deal, but after having bad experiences with five security companies, and never getting calls back from the others, I realized there is a huge need for a security company that is willing to work with the business owner to create a security plan tailored for their specific business needs. At my venue I was having problems with officers not showing up, falling asleep on the job and being rude to my staff and guests. A security guard is the first impression my customers have of my business, so it's crucial that they are willing to represent me and my company. I needed a security guard that will open the door for my guests, give them a smile and go out of their way to assist as guest. I also needed a sales team that would listen to my needs at the company level and work with me, not against me. As much as I tried, I couldn't find a service that could do that. So I started to do a little research on what it would take to do it myself.
In order to get licensed by SLED, a company must have an experienced law enforcement professional on their team to supervise hiring, training and operations. When I started taking the idea of opening Bravo1 seriously, there was only one person that came to mind for this position, Dean Elliott. Dean and I were in Leadership Greenville together, and it was apparent then that he was not only a veteran law enforcement professional, but he was passionate about taking care of his people and being a great leader. Dean retired from his 28 year career in law enforcement in the spring of 2014, and I couldn't resist taking advantage of the timing. I approached him in the fall about going into business with me, and he didn't event hesitate before accepting. Dean brings his years of experience to the table, providing us with a huge advantage over other security companies who have minimal real life experience.
Together Dean and I have agreed to create a security company that listens to our clients, treats our employees with respect and cooperates with local law enforcement to ensure we are acting appropriately in all situations. At this time we are excited to offer unarmed SLED security guards and crowd management personnel. If the need arises we will add armed guards and vehicle patrol services. We may be new to the private security game, but we have taken every step to ensure we are doing things as thoroughly, efficiently and effectively as possible. To start with, we are fully licensed and insured with both general liability and worker's comp policies. Dean is a certified SLED instructor, giving us the ability to train our officers in house. Most companies train their officers for four hours and cut them loose. We train them for a minimum of 12 hours in the classroom and then 8 hours on an event at our own site. Our training goes outside the scope of standard SLED training to include customer service training and leadership development. We also pay our staff on average $1.50-$2 more than our competition, ensuring that we are hiring the best.
